Next, our dentist will implant a screw-shaped metal post into your jawbone. Over the next few weeks, your jawbone will fuse with the metal post, in a process known as osseointegration. This process creates a sturdy support for the dental crown.
Your dentist may place the abutment when they implant the metal post, or they may place the abutment at a separate visit a couple of weeks after placement of the implant.
Once osseointegration is complete, you will return to your dentist’s office for the dental crown, also known as a pontic. Your dentist will cement or snap the pontic into place during this visit.
